The most valuable treasure you could have is your health – and you must cling to it as it’s slowly slipping away. A healthy body and mind can do more than you’d ever imagine.
In the previous e-mails I talked about skin, kidneys, and brain, and today I’ll tell you what you need to know in order to protect the most important organ in the body – your heart.
Before getting started, I recommend you to take a set of blood tests, to check your current status. Heart disease rarely does show any symptoms while prevention can still be made. High levels of cholesterol and triglycerides don’t hurt, and that’s why there are a lot of people who suffer from strokes or heart attacks “out of the blue.”
Having that in mind, I’ll present you a couple of tips to include in your lifestyle that will help you keep heart failure at bay, no matter your age!
1. Eat meat twice a week – a hundred years ago, meat was not as accessible as today. As a matter of fact, our parents and grandparents didn’t base their diet on animal by-products at all. These were considered a treat, and it also took them some time to prepare the animal that had been sacrificed (more time than just a trip to the supermarket).
The reasoning is simple – meat, eggs, and dairy products contain cholesterol, and lots of it. If you consume them on a daily basis, the body does not have enough time to process and eliminate it. Moreover, considering all the additives that are found in meat and which are meant to preserve it and enhance its taste, there are even more toxins that you store every day.
Last, but not least, during the sacrifice of the animal, there are a lot of chemicals released in its own body. Among them, there is adrenaline, one of the stress hormones, which ends up in your plate and eventually your body as you enjoy your meal.
2. Oatmeal – it is one of the foods that will work wonders for your heart and not only. It contains fibre that will “collect” the fats in your GI tract, as well as from the blood (the previously mentioned cholesterol and tryglicerides).
You can find it as supplement in any health store, and I recommend you consuming it in this form, as it is easily absorbed by the body. Please bear in mind that cereal such as oatmeal is the typical food for horses, which have a more powerful digestive system than humans.
3. Omega-3 fatty acids – these fatty acids will fight against the saturated fats that are found in your blood stream, uncoupling them just like oatmeal does. Furthermore, they act as lubricant and actually feed the heart and the blood vessels, making them more elastic and resistant.
Consume more wild-caught ocean fish such as tuna, salmon, mackerel or sardines, olive oil, and nuts (all types), and your heart will thank you for it!
